Sabbatical grants and other news bits
- Sabbatical grants are available for ministers and churches through the Board of Pensions. This is the last year this will happen. There are 24 grants available and only 9 used. John Shuck is on the committee that selects the people so contact him with questions. You must meet the following criteria:
- Minister must be in the presbytery for 10 years
- Minister must be in congregation for 6 years
- Church has a membership less than 200
- Columbia Seminary will host its fifth annual Call Fair for Pastor Nominating Committees on February 19 from 1-4:30 pm. This event helps connect graduating seniors with congregations and organizations with leadership position openings.
- Rev. Joan Gray, former GA moderator, is teaching polity at Johnson C. Smith Theological Seminary in Atlanta this semester. Gray is co-author with Joyce Tucker of Presbyterian Polity for Church Officers.
- Evangelism & Church Growth has new resources from Small Church & Community Ministry: Stepping Out in Faith (nine small congregations on a journey of transformation); Spiritual Vitality through Cooperative Ministry and New Times New Call [pdf](by Diana A. Stephen); and video downloads, Deep and Wide and Diversity.
- A redesign of mission program grants is intended to increase new church developments and support work of presbyteries in congregational transformation in 2010.
- Give thanks for peacemakers and peacemaking ministries in 2010. Planned opportunities to observe the 30th anniversary of peacemaking include: A dessert celebration at General Assembly on July 6; Intergenerational activies during Family Week July 26-August 1 at Ghost Ranch, Abiquiu ; “Remembering Peace: Still the Believers’ Calling, a seminar for adults/young adults August 25-29, Ghost Ranch; “Songs of Peace & Justice“, a time of songwriting, worship, retreat on themes of justice and peace for professional musicians, activists, and others, October 10-14 at Stony Point Center
